The Alapaha Blueberry bush, named after the Alapaha River in south Georgia, is a mid-season rabbiteye blueberry released in 2001. These medium-sized berries are sweet, firm, and have a great flavor profile. With a medium dark blue color and a small dry scar, Alapaha blueberries have a good shelf life. Requiring 450 to 500 chilling hours, Alapaha has shown improved resistance to rain cracking. While it exhibits some self-fruitfulness, it is recommended to plant Alapaha with other rabbiteye blueberries like Vernon for cross-pollination. (USDA Zones 6-9)
